Things to do in Honolulu Hawaii

Honolulu Hawaii

Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, is home to over a million people and is the largest city in Hawaii. Best known for its beautiful beaches and shopping center, it’s also the center for commerce in the pacific and is a bustling, modern city with over 470 high rises.  It lies on the southern end of Oahu. The name Honolulu means “sheltered bay” in Hawaiian and it began and still is the main seaport for the Hawaiian Islands.

More than just beaches, Honolulu offers much more. The bishop museum, Hawaii Theater, landmarks like the Aloha Tower, a vibrant nightlife, Hawaiian regional cuisine, art galleries, and the Chinatown arts district are just some of the myriad of things that will keep you busy here. Of course the beaches are the star attractions here. Diamond Head and Ohana are great spots to bask in the sun and dive into the surf.

Hawaii's year round tropical weather offers a great opportunity for outdoor sports like running, biking, or hiking. The 4 mile loop around Diamond Head is a popular scenic route. Hike to the top of the iconic Diamond Head State Monument for panoramic views of Waikiki and Honolulu. For world class snorkeling you will want to go to the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve. Hawaii’s thriving entertainment scene has theatres, concerts, clubs, bars, and other events. Nicknamed “The Broadway of the Pacific”, catch a show at one of the many theatres like the Diamond Head Theatre which has been performing since 1922.

Head to the Aloha Tower for shopping and dining at the marketplace and get a picture of the famous clock tower. For more shopping and food you’ll want to visit the small neighborhood of Kapahulu. Fun for the whole family, the Bishop Museum houses the largest collection of Hawaiiana and Pacific culture artifacts.  One of the most popular landmarks is the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. This sunken hull of the battleship Arizona is visited by more than a million people annually.

Pack your things and head to the majestic island of Oahu. This place is full of beautiful attractions that will leave you with unforgettable memories. Visit the Ko Olina Lagoons, Lanikai Beach, Waimea Valley, Kualoa Ranch, Byodo-in Temple, and Polynesian Cultural Center when you’re in Oahu.
