Tillamook Head

Located in Ecola State Park, southwest of Seaside, Tillamook Head is known to be the farthest point of Lewis and Clark’s expedition. Different from other attractions in Seaside, Tillamook Head is a thousand-foot sharp rock cliff that is best for an adventurous hike. Besides, hiking is the most popular activity here. Whether pro or beginner, hikers can enjoy an adventurous trail by choosing among the three trails representing their different difficulty levels. The route of the trail or the difficulty levels may vary depending on the trail guide. Hence, there are easy, moderate, and challenging levels.

Generally, the easy trail can reach up to three miles round trip and 400 feet elevation gain. The moderate one is a three-mile loop with 900 feet elevation gain. Lastly, the difficult trail is 6.1 miles with 1,350 feet elevation gain. Along the trail, hikers can find many beautiful viewpoints, such as the Tillamook Rock Light and the so-called “Clark’s Point of View.” Moreover, hikers can witness the historical radar station site of World War II near Hikers Camp. For big explorations, Tillamook Head is a perfect fit to discover in Seaside.

Jewell Meadows Wildlife Area

For people who love to explore wildlife, never miss visiting the Jewell Meadows Wildlife Area. Since 1969, this 3,000-acre wildlife area has been operated by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to preserve wildlife species such as Roosevelt elk, bobcats, river otters, deers, raccoons, beavers, and weasels. Jewell Meadows Wildlife Area is known for its 200 herds of Roosevelt elk that can be seen most in winter.

Between December and February, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife provides a feeding program for Roosevelt elk for further studies about the animal. Hence, this is an excellent opportunity to witness the Roosevelt elks. Nonetheless, the wildlife area is also famous when it comes to bird watching destinations. They have abundant bird species such as bald eagles, songbirds, swallows, and red-tailed hawks. Jewell Meadows is mostly visited by many tourists, and reserving a spot means being lucky. However, there is only limited access inside since it is a protected wildlife area.
