Property Information |
|
Villa Mirabella is a wonderfully secluded farmhouse with a private pool
bordered by wooded hills. The views encompass over five acres of estate
lands and miles of surrounding countryside. This fertile farm yields wine,
olive oil, fruit and honey, products that may be purchased directly from
the owner who tends to the grounds daily.
The same owner runs a butcher shop in Orvieto, a 15 minute drive away.
For three generations, his family has been offering fresh quality meats
including their own homemade salami, sausages and porchetta. Needless
to say, the villa comes with an outdoor barbecue and a furnished gazebo
by the pool where you can savor your tender grillings.
The villa is furnished in a refreshingly simple, country style. All windows
have screens. For groups of 10 or more, the adjoining wing is opened.
Maid service or a cook, for an occasional meal, must be requested when
booking.
In addition to the owner, a country cat lazily patrols the grounds. The
honeybees are kept safely locked up in their apiary, 20 yards away behind
the hen house.
The three mile long road to the villa is unpaved and bumpy. Sferracavallo,
the nearest town with shops and restaurants, is a five minute drive away.
Nearby Castel Viscardo offers a couple of good restaurants and an
imposing castle. The village is renown for its handmade bricks that pave
Siena’s Piazza del Campo and Rome’s Colosseum.
Secluded need not mean remote. Villa Mirabella is just 15 minutes west of
Orvieto and 20 minutes from the A1, an excellent location from which to
explore Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio.
Ancient Orvieto, with its majestic Duomo sits high above an outcrop of
volcanic tufa, honeycombed with old Etruscan tunnels. Whether seen from
afar or from within, the city is magical. Orvieto Scalo, a newer settlement
on the valley below, offers train service to both Florence and Rome and is
home to a mysterious Etruscan necropolis. Alviano, 30 minutes away, is
an oasis for migratory birds with well maintained paths for walking and
bird watching. Also within easy drives are Lake Bolsena, reached in 30
minutes; Città della Pieve or Todi: 45; Perugia: 60. Siena, Spoleto, Assisi
or Rome are all within 90 minute drives, and Florence is reached within
two hours.
