Passo d'Elefante is one of a kind. From the first floor and the pool, the views are of rolling hills dotted with tiny hamlets. From the terrace and the top floor, one sees medieval Corciano. At ground level are seven acres of gardens and woods. By the door, a small replica of Perugia's signature fountain gurgles in anticipation of your acquaintance.
Next to the large pool is an outdoor kitchen with a wood oven, a barbecue and a pool house with a bathroom, changing rooms and wet bar. By the bocce court is a lighted and fenced tennis court as well as a clubhouse with two showers and a bar area.
The interiors are air conditioned and elegantly furnished with antiques. The elevator, like so many things inexplicably Italian, takes seven steps to reach. The late parents of the owner were passionate collectors. Over 3500 representations of elephants from all over the world adorn the estate. Had Hannibal invaded Italy with half this many, Carthage would have surely vanquished Rome. So expect to see a few during your stay.
The kitchen is a chef's dream. The lower level has a fireplace, billiards, roulette, a collection of slots (not playable), a bar and many seating arrangements. The second floor has an exercise room and a sauna. Maid service and a mid week towel change are included. The live-in caretaker can arrange for laundry or cook service, if requested when booking.
Being five minutes from the highway makes this an ideal base for seeing Tuscany and Umbria. In 10 minutes are supermarkets and restaurants. Corciano is also 10 minutes away; Lake Trasimeno or Perugia: 15; Cortona: 35; Assisi or Deruta: 40; Todi or Spello: 60; Siena or Florence: 85; Orvieto: 90; Rome: 120.

Shopping and dining: Within one mile is Castelvieto with a small grocery store and cafe bar. The small town of Corciano is 10 minutes away and offers a few restaurants and trattorie. The town of Perugia with a larger shopping and dining selection is 15 minutes away. A "COOP" supermarket, open Saturday evenings until 8 pm is 10 minutes away in Ellera.
Not to be missed: The cashmere outlets surrounding Corciano located off the Perugia-Bettolle superstrada.
During summer months, pack a picnic lunch and take a ferry to Isola Polvese in the middle of Lake Trasimeno.
Public transportation: The closest train station is in Magione with service to Perugia, Florence and to the Terontola-Cortona train station with connections throughout Italy.
Golf: In Ellera Umbra, 10 minutes away, is the 18-hole "Perugia Golf Club", open year round. Closed on Mondays.
Horseback riding: In Colle Umberto within a 10 minute drive.
Outdoor activities: Within a 20 minute drive is Oasi Naturalistica La Valle, a nature reserve with over 150 bird species from Lake Trasimeno nesting there. The reserve is open year round and offers guided walks and boat tours.
La Citta della Domenica, an amusement park and zoo, open from April to early September is approximately 10 minutes away.
Open air markets: Morning markets are held in Magione every Thursday and in Passignano sul Trasimeno, Perugia and Cortona every Saturday.
