Among the Leeward Islands and approximately 150 miles east of Puerto Rico rests the pearl of the Caribbean: St Barthelemy. Call her what you will; St. Barts, St. Bart, St. Barth, or St. Barths. One thing is for sure - You’ll never have an experience as pleasant and romantic as what you’ll find on this miraculous French-owned Island.

St. Barts was first discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493, and kindly named after his brother Bortolemo. It wasn’t until the 17th century when immigrants from Brittany, Normandy, and the French inhabited island of St. Kitts, began settling and populating the Island. First under French control in 1648, France later leased the Island to Sweden in 1785 for trading rights in the Baltic. French rule was eventually restored in 1878 by vote of the island’s citizens. Today, St. Barts is a French commune and a dependency of the French overseas department of Guadeloupe.

Situated in the exclusive private gated community of Mont Jean, Villa Om boasts amazing views overlooking Tortue Island and Marigot Bay.

Present day St. Barthelemy still carries a bit of Swedish influence from its named streets to its capital, Gustavia the main town and shopping center. However, much of the island is dominated by French culture from the language all the way to the gourmet French cuisine served in its authentic restaurants, villas and hotels.

St. Barts offers quite a unique experience because of the limitations of mega resorts and casinos. With room only for small hotels and private million dollar villas, St. Barts has been known to house the rich and the famous and has a reputation for catering to those looking to spend top dollar on its pristine beaches. It is said that The Rothschild’s, Rockefellers, and Fords all own villas on St. Barts.

The range of activities will keep you busy. Snorkel by the rocks and the reef, or splash around in the glittering crystal clear waters. There is kite surfing and surfing available on breezy beaches or rest a blanket on the warm sand and have a picnic. Also available are mini cruises, small boat and sailboat rides, and private yachts.

With the abundance of activities available, don’t forget about the food. Many top French chefs tour the island and there is always fresh local produce and seafood. When put together with the culinary talents of the locals and business owners, you’re taste buds will thank you after a memorable Creole dish. You’ll find the best meals and restaurants in the Caribbean at St. Barthelemy.

Casinos are forbidden on the island as well as nude sunbathing, but that doesn’t keep the tourists from finding an open spot on the beaches on Saline and Gouverneur and shedding clothes. With restrictions on each beach on the number and size of hotel development, you’ll rarely find a crowded beach.

St. Barts is characterized by its calm, white, sandy beaches and beautiful shallow reefs. For the most exclusive locations in St. Barthelemy, there are numerous private homes and villas just waiting for your arrival. Click below for links and descriptions of St. Barts beach rentals and St. Barts vacation rentals.

St. Jean Beach
Experience two different personalities with St. Jean Beach vacation rentals at St Barths. On the smaller side beyond Eden Rock, watch your kids play in water while you bask in the sun in seclusion. The other, much larger side is the home to several hotels, restaurants and a small airport landing strip. Don’t worry however, because most people find it quite fascinating to watch small planes land overhead. Often windy, St. Jean Beach is perfect for those looking to windsurf.

Lorient Beach
For calm waters and beautiful views of the reef, check out Lorient Beach vacation rentals. Located on the north side of St Barthelemy, guests can enjoy good swimming in an area which is seldom discovered by tourists and only a few fishing boats.

Grand Cul de Sac Beach
Grand Cul de Sac Beach vacation rentals are located in one of the calmest waters of St. Barts. Like Lorient Beach, Grand Cul de Sac Beach is reef protected. Children can enjoy playing in its shallow waters and you can too. Find out just how far you can walk into the lagoon as you watch windsurfers go by. With hotels, restaurants and a ton of water sports, there is fun for all.

Flamands Beach
Bring your lunch or have a picnic on the white sandy beaches where Flamands Beach vacation rentals are located. A few hotels and restaurants can be found through the palm trees, but its beauty is far more impressive. Catch some shade or ride the waves. Flamands Beach is a gem and is never crowded.

Marigot Bay
Marigot Bay vacation rentals benefit as an area where tourists can swim and snorkel. Few swim here because of its small size, but those staying in private villas will enjoy the view from towering palm trees and having the beach all to themselves.

Colombier Beach - Also known as Rockefeller’s Beach
In order to gain access to Colombier Beach, you need to do a little traveling; usually through a 25 minute hike near Flamands Beach or by a boat, sailboat, or yacht. If you rent a Colombier Beach vacation rental, you’ll be as close as they come to one of the most remote beaches on the island. Once there, spread out the blankets and have a picnic as you watch your friends and family splash in the water. Colombier Beach still called "Rockefeller’s Beach," because for many years David Rockefeller owned the properties surrounding it.

Saline Beach
Bring plenty of sunscreen because Saline Beach is all sand and sun. With no shade on this breathtaking stretch of sand, you'll be sure to catch a tan without even looking for one. Perhaps this is why Saline Beach is the place where most sunbathers go nude. Saline Beach vacation rentals can be found on the southern side of the island. Just weave your way through a rocky path, past scalable sand dunes, until you come upon the true beach experience of Saline.

Gouverneur Beach - Anse du Gouverneur
Otherwise known as Anse du Gouverneur, Gouverneur Beach is a popular spot for nude sunbathers due to the strong sunlight. However, white sandy beaches await you on this unspoiled stretch of beach on the southern side of St. Barths and many can find themselves surfing the waves, or snorkeling by the rocks. Get a unique beach experience with a Gouverneur Beach vacation rental.

Petit Cul de Sac
A favorite among locals, Petit Cul de Sac is a gem to find with its calm waters and beautiful white sandy beaches. You'll find nothing but peace and tranquility in this protected lagoon on the northeast corner of St. Barthelemy. With the size of the reef and the depth of the water, you'll find opportunities with Petit Cul de Sac vacation rentals for snorkeling adventures.

Shell Beach - Also known as Grand Chalet
Just south of Gustavia, rests incredible Shell Beach. Visitors of Shell Beach vacation rentals will enjoy collecting an array of unique shells amongst the calm waters and sunbathing and swimming amidst the breeze. With the expense of your trip, find an invaluable yet sentimental souvenir at Shell Beach.

Anse des Cayes Beach
Anse des Cayes is a favorite among surfers with its unusual and consistent onshore breezes. However, visitors staying in Anse des Cayes vacation rentals will also enjoy other activities such as windsurfing, sailing, scuba diving or even jet skiing. Pick up a board and ride the wave at Anse des Cayes beach.

Corossol Beach
To get a true sense of the traditional culture of St. Barths, one must journey to Corossol Beach where you'll find a village once home to St. Bart’s fishermen and now home to ancestors of the original inhabitants from France. Watch villagers of Corossol weave intricate straw baskets and on special occasions, you can catch the women of the village wearing their traditional dress from France and quichenotte bonnets. Come enjoy a life much more simpler then modern architecture and mega resorts and find a Corossol Beach vacation rental.
