Property Description

Escape the everyday mundane and bring the family, the dog, the boat, and perhaps the in-laws for a peaceful getaway in this authentic yet modern Appalachian log home in the countryside of Baxter. Built with logs from the 1850s, this home was reconstructed in 2007. It is a perfect place to grab that glass of wine and relax on one of the decks, or the sandstone rocking chair front porch, while the kids play in a huge grassy area. Explore the 11 acres, do some grilling, or enjoy time in the California Room.
Cookeville Boat Dock Marina is two miles away, for boating and fishing. Burgess Falls and Window Cliffs are a short drive and several other nature treasures including Floating Mills Recreational Area.
Farmhouse-style furnishings, 2 bedrooms (1-Queen, 1-King), and a huge loft (2-XL Twins). New mattresses, sofa sleepers, and more. There is also a reading area for the little ones, lots of games, and great Wi-Fi for homeschooling or work that needs to be done while visiting this home away from home.
Good space for one or two families with room to spread out and make memories, start new traditions, explore, write a song, play games, or just enjoy a change of scenery. Easy boat and car parking in the circular driveway. One bathroom is somewhat limited, and you may need to set time limits, but the cabin allows for plenty of other spaces in bedrooms for those wardrobe changes.
Recommended for families, hunters, sport fishing, yoga retreats, kayak clubs, honeymooners, holidays, or anyone just needing to take a deep breath.
There is a $100 non-refundable dog fee if you wish to bring your dog(s); up to 2 dogs.

Pioneer cabin for the modern family with pets

I've never stayed in a cabin built using materials from the 1800's, so I didn't know what to expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the cabin is exactly as shown in the listing photos! Athough it looks quite "rustic" it has the comfort and feel of any high-quality modern home with nearly all the amenities you'd expect. The only thing missing was a dishwasher but the kitchen sink layout is well suited for hand washing dishes. The kitchen is the well appointed with all the utensils and things you'll need to prepare great meals. The combo "microwave/air fryer/roaster" will come in handy when reheating those meals. We made baked potatoes in it which were so delicious - no soggy microwave food here! The Wi-Fi is fast, I had several Zoom meetings with no buffering or freezing. There is a TV in the dining room area, which has Netflix and all streaming services, however we never used it. Instead, we spent our time exploring the areas natural resources and attractions. Burgess Falls and Cummins Falls state parks are each within a 20-minute drive. Also historic downtown Cookeville is a great place to go for dinner and drinks. We didn't want to leave this beautiful cabin oasis when it was time to go! But the hosts have made checkout easy - you don't have to deal with removing linens and putting towels in the laundry. Just take out the trash and you're out the door! Whether you're on a staycation weekend from Nashville or an international tourist, this property is the best accommodation the Cookeville area has to offer in terms of value, comfort and location.

Great property! Love the history of the cabin. We enjoyed the quiet and not being super close to another rental (common with other rentals). We had a boat with us and this property was really convenient given the circular driveway and area to park the boat. We weren't expecting all of this and it was a great surprise. The Cookeville Boat ramp was not busy at all when we launched Thursday evening. We were in pretty quickly and we didn't have to wait long to take out. We had a pretty hard rain storm and the roof started leaking, but this wasn't over any sleeping areas and "Rick" was quick to try to fix it - including climbing on the roof by himself to do so! Thanks for the wonderful stay, we would recommend this property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hyland Woods. It provided us with a comfortable, well-appointed and tastefully decorated log home that had a rich history and stories to tell. In addition, Hyland Woods served as an ideal base as we explored some of Tennessee's most beautiful state parks. Cummins Falls, Burgess Falls, and Rock Island supplied us with some much needed nature therapy. The hiking, waterfalls, and spring flowers were all spectacular. At Hyland Woods, we enjoyed watching a wild turkey hen visit on a couple of occasions, listening to beautiful bird calls from the woods behind the house, sitting and listening to the quiet, and enjoying a delicious catfish dinner at the Lighthouse at the Cookeville Boat Dock less than 2 miles from the house. Hyland Woods provided us with a wonderful and much-needed getaway!

Manager's Response
This all sounds perfect, Chuck. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all!
We will happily help you guys to vacation again, and more often! Let us know when you are ready.

This is the perfect home to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cabin is solid and cozy and gives a sense of home as soon as you walk in. The way it is laid out, makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. There is a central gathering place for the family that comprises kitchen, a big dining table (with Smart TV) and a convenient and vital coffee/tea station. There is no dishwasher, but it fits with the whole vibe of the cabin and the sinks (three sinks with garbage disposal in the middle!) make for an easy clean up, where everyone can pitch in. The beds are very comfortable and the cabin seems perfect for a small family to enjoy. The back decks are beautiful and face a huge forest where sometimes some deer appear during the quiet morning hours. The word "quiet" cannot be repeated enough. It is truly a haven for relaxation with only at times a friendly "moo" from a cow in a far away field. You can tell that the home is loved and cared for in its details for smaller children (with a special reading/play corner) and lots of games that can be enjoyed together on the big dining/game table. There is also a snug dog bed, food bowl and some toys, reserved for the four legged family friend, should you decide to bring them along. The area is breathtaking and the Marina is so close and perfect to enjoy at sunset. There is also a delightful front porch with a fire pit in case you would like to make some s’mores! (The management is great and very sensitive to ensuring that the guests are happy. They are also attentive, thoughtful and extremely caring. I highly recommend this property.
