After more than four decades in Park City, Utah, the Sundance Film Festival is beginning a new chapter in Boulder, Colorado. The internationally celebrated independent film festival will take place January 21–31, 2027, bringing world premieres, documentaries, filmmaker discussions, and special events to the scenic foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
The move marks the end of an extraordinary era in Park City, where Sundance helped launch influential filmmakers and established the mountain town as a global destination for independent cinema. Boulder will carry that legacy forward with its vibrant arts community, walkable downtown, and spectacular mountain setting.

Robert Redford founded the Institute in 1981 to foster independence, risk-taking, and new voices in American film. In addition to the Festival, the Sundance Institute hosts many public programs in the U.S. and around the world to connect artists with audiences to present original voices, inspire new ideas, and create community around independent storytelling.
Storytelling to awaken new ideas that have the power to delight and entertain, push creative boundaries, spark new levels of empathy and understanding, and even lead to social change.
