If you're craving fresh fish in a chill, unpretentious setting, Coconut’s Fish Café in Kihei absolutely hits the spot. This is the kind of place where the food does all the talking, no white tablecloths, no frills just seriously good island-style seafood served with aloha.

The Food

Let’s start with the famous fish tacos, because wow. These aren’t your average tacos. Each one is a flavor bomb packed with 17 different ingredients, including a grilled blend of Mahi Mahi and Ono, mango salsa, coleslaw, and a creamy wasabi sauce all tucked into warm tortillas. They're enormous (two is plenty), messy in the best way, and ridiculously fresh. You will probably need a fork halfway through.

Other standouts:

Grilled fish plate – generous portions of perfectly cooked local catch, often Mahi or Ahi, served over brown rice with a side of pineapple coleslaw. Clean, healthy, and flavorful.

Coconut shrimp – crispy, golden, and comes with a tangy dipping sauce. A solid starter or shared plate.

Seared Ahi wrap – light and satisfying if you’re after something less heavy.

* For kids or picky eaters, they’ve got chicken and fries but let’s be honest, you're here for the fish.

Atmosphere

Traditional Hawaiian culture with a modern twist of playful decor, and a lively island atmosphere, with the sounds of Hawaiian music in the air. Guests can relax, soak in the island vibe, and enjoy a meal infused with the spirit of Aloha. We’re also committed to a cleaner environment, using eco-friendly products and recycling all used cooking oil into biofuel.

You order at the counter, find a seat (indoor and outdoor seating available), and they bring your food out when it's ready. The vibe is super laid-back—surfboard tables, island music, people in flip-flops and board shorts. It’s very Maui. Beer and winel is served here, but plenty of great local brews and cocktails are available nearby if you're doing a food crawl through Kihei.

Price

It’s not exactly cheap (this is Maui, after all), but you get what you pay for. The portions are big, the quality is excellent, and the fresh fish alone makes it worth every penny. Expect to spend around $15–$20 per person.

Dining Tips

It can get busy during peak lunch and dinner hours, especially after beachgoers start rolling in, so try to come early or later in the evening. Great for takeout if you want to eat by the ocean or back at your condo. Parking is available but tight so be patient or park nearby and walk.

Final Review

Coconut’s Fish Café is the kind of place you’ll want to return to at least once during your trip. It doesn’t try too hard AND it just nails what it does best: fresh, flavorful, island-style fish dishes with a casual beach-town vibe. Whether you’re just off the sand or headed to watch the sunset, this place is a solid bet.
