Property Description

Enjoy the private natural setting among boulders and native rhododendron in this favorite two bedroom two bath log cabin while still convenient to area attractions and amenities. Features hot tub, central AC, outdoor firepit and wood burning fireplace to accommodate up to four with two queen bedrooms, each with their own private bath.

Master with queen bed and full bath, second bedroom with queen bed and full bath.

Welcome to Farallon, one our coziest Valle Crucis log cabin rentals. Surrounded by hardwoods and rhododendron and natural rock outcroppings, this cabin offers the perfect mountain hideaway. To step onto the covered side porch is to already disappear from the hectic world of deadlines and intrusions. The most pressing intrusion here is likely to be a chattering squirrel or the leaves dappling the light upon the pages of the latest best-seller.

To open the door and step inside is to be greeted by nature. The spaciousness of the floor plan is augmented by large windows flanking the magnificent wood-burning fireplace and rising all the way to the cathedral ceiling. With the clean lines of the furniture and the contemporary wrought iron light fixtures suspending from the ceiling offer unobstructed view of the forest outside every window.

The open dining area features seating for six and French doors that open onto the front deck equipped with a gas grill for preparing mountain trout freshly caught in the nearby Watauga River. Pristine modern appliances appoint the fully-equipped centrally located kitchen.

The living area features a comfortable seating area before the fireplace, a flat screen television, and a cabinet of books and games for relaxing after the day’s excursions of canoeing and hiking. A telescope waits in the corner for gazing at stars light years away in the crystal clear skies.  Hidden behind the kitchen are two bedrooms, each furnished with queen sized beds and offering the rustic comfort of layers of patchwork quilts. Large windows allow plenty of sunlight for enjoying a lazy breakfast in bed.

A large covered deck stretches the entire front of the cabin, overlooking the surrounding rhododendron and large boulders. The deck is furnished with rocking chairs for after dinner snoozing and features a hot tub for soaking away the stiffness of overdoing it on the slopes while the snow falls around you or hiking up nearby Grandfather Mountain. Follow the path outside to your own fire pit for knocking off the chill after a summertime shower, roasting dogs and s’mores, and telling bear tales.

For larger groups, consider renting this cabin with nearby Black Bear Lodge or Van Beek's Peak.

Depending on the home, 4WD, chains or sometimes both may be required when visiting the mountains in winter. Access to this home may not be suitable for vehicles with rear wheel drive, limited ground clearance, or motorcycles even during summer months.  We are happy to help you find the home with the access you are most comfortable with, any time of year!

Dogs welcome $25/night each. Maximum of 2.

This a great hideaway on top of the mountain. We had a wonderful week in this cozy cabin. The cabin had everything we needed and some fun games and books. We definitely recommend the fire pit. A quiet retreat from the tourist activity of Boone with all the amenities.

Superb cabin home, very well maintained and well fitted out, nice decor and very functional, hot tub and fire pit (with fire wood provided) are great add ons, location is fairly isolated and 4x4 essential during winter weather, overall I will rent again!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Farallon. It is exactly as pictured and described. The hot tub and fireplace were worth the trip up the steep mountain. We would love to stay in this cabin again. Thanks!

We had an amazing time everything was perfect. It is a cozy house with beautiful views.

By Victoria On 04/19/2019
My husband, the dog and I stayed at the Farallon for 6 days and it was AMAZING! The fireplace, fire-pit and hot tub were clean and well maintained. The house is beautiful with lots of room and a very open floor plan and tons of windows to enjoy the view. The beds are very soft with ample pillows and blankets. Lots of dresser and closet space to unpack and feel right at home. There isn't a keurig machine so bring coffee filters to make coffee by the pot. The kitchen is very well stocked with flatware, utensils, pots, pans, bakeware, blender, crockpot, and everything you would need to cook and bake. Make sure to pack storage containers, ziplock bags and such for any left-overs. Also bring condiments, unfortunately I forgot and had to run out to the market for ketchup, mayonnaise, butter, etc :-( Our stay was the beginning of April so there were no leaves on the trees, you can see the rooftop of a few homes but really there was no one around. In the 6 days we were there we did not see a single person. We took hikes around the area and it was so peaceful and beautiful. Watauga County has strict leash laws and there are several farms in the area so please do not let your pet run off leash, it would be very easy for them to get into trouble. You definitely need a 4wd or AWD vehicle to get to the property. We did have to call maintenance on Saturday morning for a pretty bad faucet leak and they came right out and fixed it, I was really surprised at how fast they showed up for a Saturday morning [very professional]. We look forward to visiting again in the future.

Absolutely Marvelous!

The Farallon Was Spectacular!
By Ryan On 09/10/2018
The Farallon was spectacular! House was as expected from pictures, and really quiet and picturesque. Trust their directions as they are spot on. Plan to return when the leaves are off and the snow starts! Even the kids loved exploring around the cabin. Thanks!

Exceeded Our Expectations!
By Ben On 08/16/2018
“This place had absolutely everything that was described and exceeded our expectations... it was worth every penny. The place was beautiful, spotless, and very well appointed. The communication from management was perfect and we truly appreciate all of their help throughout the entire process. The views are amazing and suggest getting up early to watch the sun rise from the deck. There are too many nice things to say about this place. We cannot wait to return.” “Thank you so much for the perfect vacation. The place was beautiful and perfectly set up. It was so relaxing and peaceful... the small touches/details were very much appreciated. I would also like to thank everyone who responded to our questions in a very timely manner. Again, we had the BEST time and will definitely plan to return. Thanks, Ben & Laura”

Gorgeous Cabin

“Gorgeous cabin. Very comfortable. The view is gorgeous but mostly blocked by trees. Management is excellent”

Great Cabin
By Jeremy On 01/18/2018
Awesome place! It was a great cabin out in the woods. I'll definitely point out that when they recommend 4WD/tire chains, they mean it. there's a little bit of driving off the paved road that couldn't have been done without 4WD because of the snow. The house was cozy and clean, the hot tub was great, and being secluded was awesome. I'd stay here again.
