Property Description

Location combined with history and design makes Coral Condo a prize piece of vacation real estate. This cozy one bedroom is located in the heart of Old Town just one block off Duval Street, where you'll find many of the attractions visitors come to the island to enjoy. This large corner condo is on the second floor of the restored Hollinsed House, one of Key West's turn of the 19th century Victorian homes that has been meticulously converted into contemporary vacation rental condos. Coral Condo opens onto a wrap-around porch overlooking the courtyard and pool on one side and fashionable Southard Street on the other. The Condo is listed as having one king bedroom but that doesn't tell the whole story: there's also a queen pullout sofa with a memory foam mattress.

Your first thoughts upon arrival will probably be of spending time in the heated pool provided for the exclusive use of Hollinsed House guests. This amenity is surrounded by an expansive antique brick deck ringed with tropical foliage that creates beauty and privacy. As the eternal summer sun moves across the sky, sunshine plays through palm fronds creating a pattern of shadows and bright sparkles over the pool surface and deck. The deck features plenty of chaise loungers where you can stretch out in sun or shade to watch a puffy white cloud or two float across the sky. Tables with chairs, a barbeque grill, and a delightful fountain complete the scene.

Although Key West is an outdoorsy kind of place, your living quarters are also an important component of your vacation. The front door to Coral Condo opens into a great room with generous living space and a small dining area. A bonded leather couch and two armchairs face a glass bookshelf and a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. Sit here in comfort for a little down time. Maybe watch TV or a movie. Or perhaps you'd prefer to share cocktails and conversation with family or friends. A high, beamed ceiling above holds a paddle ceiling fan that adds air circulation and a touch of tropical design. The hardwood floors under foot are elegant and practical. Nestled behind the couch is a round glass table and two high-backed rattan chairs with pillows. Both outside walls of the great room have multiple windows and French doors that open to the front balcony.

Just off the living room is a full bath with shelves full of white textured towels, a generous mirror, and an artistically interesting lighting fixture over the sink. Right beyond the bath is a U-shaped kitchen nicely designed to include all the conveniences you'd expect, including a dishwasher and microwave. The décor is a striking blond wood and blond floor tiles with black appliances, black countertops, and complimentary tiny backsplash tiles. It's a perfect kitchen for whipping up a whole meal or just brewing a cup of coffee to take out to one of the chairs on the 2nd floor balcony or down to the pool area.

Through a doorway in the great room is the spacious bedroom, which like the rest of the condo space has plenty of windows to let in the island's lovely ambient light. Even with the king bed, there's plenty of room left over for matching white wicker furniture: a dresser and mirror, two armchairs, a TV stand with TV, and bedside tables with lamps. Nothing seems crowded or inconveniently placed. Everything invites relaxation.

Once you've put on suntan lotion and unpacked your shade hat, it's time to explore some of America's only Caribbean island. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, unusual flora and fauna, or the myriad opportunities to have fun, all you need do to begin your exploration is walk one block down to Duval. This famous street spans the island's two-mile width from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico. The many attractions include Smathers and Higgs beaches, the Southernmost Point, Hemingway House, the Truman White House, Fort Zachery Taylor, and the Historic Seaport to name a few. While you're in town, check out the tours, museums, water sports, shopping, bars, and over two hundred restaurants in all price ranges and covering all diet specialties, many with open-air seating, some right on the water. Maybe take a Conch Train Tour or a Historic Key West Walking Tour. Be sure to save time for the world famous Mallory Square sunset celebration where crowds of visitors and locals alike gather to witness the sun sink into the horizon. Like those around you, you'll find yourself applauding as the last round edge of fiery orange slips out of sight. Then hang around for the party as artists and street performers entertain the crowd. From here you can continue up the boardwalk to check out the Historic Seaport with its restaurants, shops, and tall ships offering day and sunset sails. When you're tired, return to Coral Condo to rest up for more adventure tomorrow.

To know what's going on from day to day, check out Historic Hideaways' informative Events page on their website. Other information on the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events can be found at milezerokeywest.com or in the print publication Paradise, which is available at various locations around town every Thursday.

We really got lucky! Coral condo was such a great place to stay. It’s convenient to all of old town by bike and most of it by foot. Several great places to eat and drink just a couple of blocks away. The pool is small but perfect for what it’s intention is which for us was just cooling off after a busy day. You won’t be swimming laps but it’s in such a beautiful tropical setting. We did have one mishap during our visit. The lock malfunctioned and we were locked out. I called the office and they worked their hardest to quickly remedy it. They were very apologetic and efficient and we were back in the door within an hour. Next time in KW this is definitely where we are staying.
Keep doing what you have been doing. Really enjoyed our stay.

We found the reservation process easy and any questions we had were quickly answered. The accommodations were outstanding. Couldn’t ask for a better location. Coral Condo is only two blocks off Duval Street. The condo was clean, quiet and had everything we needed for our long weekend stay. Parking could be a problem but we were fortunate to find a spot and did not drive during our entire stay. Highly recommend staying at Coral Condo.

Great place and convenient to all of old town. Plenty within walking distance to keep everyone busy. Cozy and well appointed but parking is a bugger which isn’t unique to this location. Pool was very tropical and a great place to cool off after a day of exploring. The pool is small but just enough, and although it’s a shared pool, we never were bothered by other people around. I really wanted to leave a bad review so we could easily book this in the future :) we did have one small issue with our lock getting stuck so we were locked out of the unit, but management was on it in a flash and handled it as quickly and friendly as possible.
Everything was perfect! We loved it! Don’t change anything!

This place was perfect for what we needed it for. We had 3 single adults that stayed here. Slept 2 in the comfy bed and one on the couch. The pull out bed is very decent. There was plenty of bedding, and towels were brought daily. The covered porch facing the street was heaven. We sat there and had coffee and/or bloody mary's in the morning (even in the rain). All kitchen facilities were perfect. Kitchen is stocked (no pizza cutter though. lol). Location was absolutely perfect. Parking was tricky sometimes, but the furthest we had to go was around the corner. It was definitely a home away from home for the week. Loved staying.

First, next time we are in Key West, we will book with Historic Hideaways. Their staff is excellent! Second, probably won't be staying at this condo. There was way too much furniture in the main room. The pool was minuscule and, really, impossible to use. There are seven units with five lounge chairs, a couple of which have seen better days. Every day, a team would come with loud blowers to blow leaves, which also made it impossible to enjoy the "wading" pool (only three feet deep and about 12 foot square). The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable; air conditioning worked just fine. Somehow, the TV was programmed incorrectly - had to turn it on and off from the controls in the back rather than the remote. Lots of dishes, etc., so no problem cooking meals. Located only one block from Duval, but quiet at night. Grocery store is just down the street and around the corner.
MANAGER RESPONSE:
Thank you for the feedback Janice. For the benefit of future Guests: The HOA has replaced all the lounge chairs around the pool.
We loved the pool and used it almost every day.

(rental agent) was excellent to work with and helped with making the rental process easy. The location of the unit was also excellent as we could walk to everywhere (did not want to rent a car). The unit itself meet all of our needs, was nicely decorated, and the AC was awesome :). We loved the pool and used it almost every day. Enjoyed having coffee on veranda before it got too hot. Only suggestion for improvement would be to go keyless entry. The extra stop to pick up/drop off key was a hassle especially dragging a bag around in the heat. It's the only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5.

Check in was efficient but on occasions I reached out for assistance, no one was available. For example, during our second the power failed and I wanted someone to report it to the power company but there was no one available to help.
MANAGER RESPONSE:
Sorry about that Larry. When we have island blackouts, as is what happened in this case (and is the norm here unfortunately) our office phones go down too! A bit of a Catch 22, but if it's any consolation, there wouldn't have been much we could do when the whole island goes down. If we could flip a switch we would! Hope to see you again.

Coral Condo is a wonderful rental. Location is great, only a block or two from Duval Street. Decor is updated and beautiful! Restaurants are close by and Fausto's Grocery Store is right around the corner. Parking can be found close by. Loved the Old World feel of staying in a historical house. (rental agent) with Historic Hideaways was a pleasure to work with. He was always very helpful in answering our questions as we planned our vacation and made sure we were comfortable and didn't have any other questions when we checked in. We had 4 adults in the condo and there was plenty of room. The memory foam mattress on the pull out couch was very comfortable - didn't feel like a pull out sofa at all. The condo itself is extremely nice, comfortable and the perfect size for 2 people although it can sleep 4. We didn't use the pool, and although it's small it was rarely used and appeared to be clean and well maintained. The only amenity I wish it had was a washer and dryer, but that would not stop us from recommending this condo!!

The location is great, short walk to Duval Street and some very good restaurants. Very nice layout and comfortable. Could use some touch=up painting and general maintenance. Parking was a pain, two off street spots for 8 units doesn't work well, We learned that we didn't need a car most of my week anyway so not such a big deal. But no washer and dryer was really a pain. Enough so that we would not book this again.because the website made it appear that there was.
MANAGER RESPONSE:
Thank you for your feedback. The website does not state there is a washer/dryer. That said, for the benefit of future Guests, this unit features daily towel/sheet service. The Housekeepers are on property once a day and they will switch out towels and linens on an 'as needed' basis. Information on the steps/process should be in the unit or contact our office for details.

Loved this place, our eighth trip to Key West and the best accommodations yet. Very spacious rooms and loved the courtyard. I was a little concerned that the pool is only 12 ft by 12 ft, but I usually had it to myself. The location is the best we've ever had. Very close to all the places you want to go to. Just two and a half blocks from the Green Parrot. It had a secluded feel to it as well. There are eight units there but only two others were occupied while we were there. The only draw back is parking, but I am willing to deal with that for a place like this at the price we paid.

Block and a half to Duval. You can walk to Southern Most Pt, Hemingway's house, Truman White House, Boat Dock, Aquarium, Ft Taylor & all restaurants. Of the 8 nights we were there, we did eat out twice while we prepared dinner in the condo 6 times. There is a full service grocery store within 2 blocks of the condo. Nice King bed; very good nights sleep, full and open kitchen that opens up to a sitting area to just relax, watch some TV. The bathroom was just off the sitting area. Preparing for the day meant that you walk through the condo to get there. However there is much privacy where outsiders are not able to look in. The outside balcony is great for just sitting with a drink and watching people and cars go by. The pool was always refreshing. It is a wading pool so don't expect to swim laps or other physical activities. Bottom line is: If I go back to Key West, I would stay at this condo in a heartbeat.
