Villa Palma is a masterfully renovated Mediterranean-
style home nestled in a crook of the Napa River, an
acre of gardens with a natural hot mineral spring-fed
swimming pool, a gurgling antique fountain, and a
capped geyser whose hot mineral waters augment the
spring in winter, keeping the pool warm enough for
year-round healing and relaxing. On the small
secluded river-bank beach one often finds napping
turtles, and wild geese and ducks are frequent visitors.
Villa Palma consists of 2 apartments with a total of 3
bedrooms, 3 bathrooms with additional sleeping
accomodations in the smaller apartments living room
that can be closed off for privacy. (8 guest maximum.)
The Poolside Apartment has a master bedroom with
marble fireplace, queen bed, and French doors opening
onto the fountain courtyard. There is a large well-
equipped eat-in kitchen with microwave, ice maker,
dishwasher, automatic coffee maker, food processor,
etc. One bathroom has a tub and shower, the second
with TV/VCR, has a marble fireplace with French doors
opening onto the back porch and main doors opening
onto the fountain courtyard and pool. The Riverside
Apartment has a queen bedroom, bathroom, a
kitchenette and dining room with fireplace, TV/VCR, as
well as a larger sitting room that can be used as a
fourth bedroom with fireplace and French doors which
open onto a private walled courtyard.
The Villa is beautifully furnished with antique paintings
and furniture. Interior floors are terra cotta tile, with
tiled courtyards and decking around the pool as well.
Exterior walls, windows and ceiling fans were designed
according to Italian methods to keep the rooms
comfortably cool in summer and cozy in winter. Each
apartment's courtyard is enclosed by a wall and iron
gate, has its own barbecue grill, and outdoor dining
and lounge furniture. A shared laundry room off the
back porch has a washer and dryer.
The large pool, which is filled by the natural flow of
hot mineral water from the spring, drains continuously
into the river, so that the healing water is always
freshly renewed. During cool weather, the spring is
augmented by very hot water from our capped geyser,
keeping the pool temperature perfect for year-round
bathing. A high wall with lattice and gates assures
privacy at the pool, which has deck chairs, a lion's
head shower, and perimeter lighting for moonlight
swimming.
Located on the northern edge of the village of
Calistoga, Villa Palma is a stone's throw from the
renowned Chateau Mont Helena Winery, the Old
Faithful Geyser, and pony-drawn carriage rides. Half a
mile away is the Mt. St. Helena golf course. Bicycle or
walk to the center of town, a pleasant, level 2-mile
road which meanders through quiet residential
neighborhoods, small vineyards and walnut groves.
Once in town there are spas and mud baths, shopping,
and an incredible selection of fine restaurants. |
