If Driving the Twisties or Whitewater Rafting are on your list of things to do when staying in the Smoky Mountains, Cheoah Lodge should be your location of choice. The lodge is just one mile from mile marker 7 on the Cheoah River, rated as the top whitewater adventure east of the Mississippi. And, it is midway between the beginning of the “Tail of the Dragon” and “The Cherohala Skyway”, two of the most challenging and spectacular driving and motor biking roads in the east.
Cheoah Lodge is set on the side of a valley between the Snowbird and Cheoah mountain ranges overlooking the Nantahala National Forest. For more outdoor activities, hiking in the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest is awe inspiring and the Appalachian Trail is exhilarating. Just downstream from the lodge is Santeetlah Lake for boating and fishing and Cheoah Point for lakeside swimming and picnics.
Back at the lodge, you can relax in the large den in front of the big screen TV after a day challenging the rapids or the roads. After dinner prepared in the over sized kitchen, you can enjoy the warmth of the wood burning stove in the living room. Amongst the stones from all over the world set in the hearth, mantle and chimney is a piece of the Berlin Wall. See if you can find it!
CHEOAH LODGE is not suitable for children under 12, sleeps 8-12 and is available year round.
