Our home 'Shoes Off,' on beautiful Bald Head Island, is only 20 minutes away from the mainland USA by passenger ferry boat. It's the perfect getaway for your family. Two stories of decks offer 180-degree views of South Beach, the Atlantic Ocean and golf course to the rear. The boardwalk beach is only 38 steps away. The Bald Head Island Club offers gourmet and casual dining options, championship golf and tennis, a kid-friendly pool with a water slide, championship Croquet Greensward, and an Adult Only Pool. Bald Head Island Club has a large playground for children, sand-volleyball court and day camp facilities. Shoes Off is a home for families that focuses on just that .....Family. Bald Head Island has been the most family-friendly place we have ever visited. Rentals can also purchase temporary memberships at BOTH the Baldhead Island Club and Shoals Club, which are sold separately by the clubs. The Shoals Club, located on the southeast corner of the island where the convergence between South and East Beaches forms the "Point" Cape Fear, is one of the most beautiful ocean vistas on the USA's Atlantic Coast. On the very tip, you can stand on a 2-foot-wide point of sand with waves coming both from the southwest and northeast. All Shoes Off guests will receive complimentary linens, beach towels, bath towels, paper towels, and trash bags. Our kitchen is well-equipped with seating for up to 10 people. We keep a guest cabinet open in the kitchen, which contains a variety of cooking spices, coffee filters, and oil. We are happy to offer the opposite. Bring your swimsuit, flip-flops and favorite refreshments, along with your iPad/Pod, a good book, and your bathing suit. Our home has a reversed floor plan, with living, dining, and screened porches on the third floor, as well as incredible ocean views. The home has two master suites and two other bedrooms located on the second level. Each bedroom has direct deck access with ocean views. One bedroom is geared towards children. It has TWO sets bunk beds, a sleeper sofa, toys, Spectrum Cable, and Apple TV streaming. We also provide two Pack & plays and one high-chair. A 48" stainless steel grill is located on the deck just outside the 3rd-floor kitchen/living room door. This grill can accommodate large groups or families. All bedrooms have large flat screen monitors with Spectrum cable TV. The third floor living area includes a 55" LED television, Spectrum cable, AppleTV, and a Bose Lifestyle System home theater audio system with Bluetooth audio connectivity. Wireless internet is available throughout the house, and the signal can even reach the beach. Fishing from the beach can be excellent or even outstanding. We recommend you unplug and grab a fishing rod instead!
We provide BIKES for adults and children, a baby-jogger, a kids bike trailer, two bike tandem attachments. Beach chairs, beach toys, kites, fishing rod sand spikes, and full-size beach umbrellas are also included. Plus, we have a fat tire aluminum cart that you can use to transport your beach party over the dune and across the beach access. The loop road behind Shoes Off, Snowy Egret or Black Skimmer is a great place for kids to safely bike and skate in an area where there is virtually no traffic. Two of our kids learned to ride a bike there. Two of our children’s bikes come with training wheels. The entire island is a great place to walk, run, bike, and skate. On weekdays, some contractor vehicles may be allowed on the road. However, you will mostly hear and see the quiet hum from the occasional electric golf trolley passing by. We can give you information about day camps for children at the Bald head Island Club and the Baldhead Island Conservancy. Both offer fantastic children's programming and can give Mom and Dad a few peaceful hours. Golf carts are the only vehicles allowed on the island. We have a 6-seater cart and a 4-seater convertible golf cart. The photos of Shoes Off do not do it justice. It's a wonderful place for you and your friends to relax, unwind, retreat, and recharge. Bald Head Island stands alone. Come and experience it for yourself. You will never see a sunset like the one you'll get from our deck on the 3rd floor. We hope to welcome you as a guest soon. We have been coming to BHI for 6 years for our family's annual beach vacation. We have stayed at several different homes on the island, but Shoes Off has been our favorite. It was comfortable and spacious. It is centrally located on the island so you aren't far from anything. The sunset views from the balcony were stunning. We have four young kids and the home has a really cool room with double bunk beds that our kids loved. We definitely plan on staying here again. As far as booking through BHI Services, they offer really responsive service. When we checked in, the hammock on the balcony was broken and I emailed the team at BHI Services and asked if they could replace it because my wife was really looking forward to using the hammock. They had it replaced within an hour and I also got a nice text from the owner telling us that he hoped we enjoyed it. I really appreciated that level of responsiveness.

"Shoes Off" was the nicest weekly rental home that we have ever had the pleasure to enjoy with our family. We had 3 couples all enjoy king size, comfortable, beds, 2 teenagers enjoy their own full beds and two small girls enjoy the 2 "pack and play" beds that are provided. The golf carts, 6 seater and 4 seater, were speedy and went the whole day without an extra charge. They were actually serviced while we were there! The bikes were amazing and the boys loved exploring the island with them. We joined the Bald Head Country Club for the week, which is a big plus not offered by every rental home, and enjoyed the golf course and the pool several days. The food and drinks at the Club were also a nice touch to enjoy while we were there. We WAY over prepared for the week with food that we brought and I would encourage anyone who might be thinking of what to bring to go light on the food. The market on the island has everything you will ever need, with the exception of hard alcohol, and the prices are similar to the mainland. The ladies loved shopping at the many shops that are there for the gifts you will want to keep and bring back to your jealous friends. The Island is amazing to experience. The beaches are not overly crowded, the water wasn't rough, and at the East Beach you can walk out into the Atlantic almost 200 yards on various sand bars which was really cool. Our house host was responsive to all our requests and has done a wonderful job providing all you will need for your best family vacation ever.

Shoes Off was the perfect house for our 1st Annual Friendsgiving trip with the 4 couples in our group. Outstanding views from the decks & screened porch! A few chilly, windy November days were warmed by the interior fireplace while viewing our daily island explore photo slide shows on the big screen TV in the living room. This house is well-equipped with everything you need & is convenient to all the island offers. We took advantage of the bicycles in the garage and toured the entire island. A bonus of our trip was attending the Howl at the Moon beach party! Will definitely rent this special home again & again!

Beautiful views from this comfortable home! Our family of four enjoyed staying at Shoe's Off. The location on the island is GREAT... the house is located right between the two Clubs and directly across from a beach access. Our kids enjoyed riding bikes at the house (few kids bikes there, one with training wheels) and exploring around the house. The house is kid friendly but, if you are traveling with young kids, remember to bring your own kids stuff for meals (plastic cups & plates) and bring your own beach towels. We look forward to staying again!

We love staying at Steve's place! It is centrally located. Right across from a beach access. House is beyond stocked for outings: coolest umbrellas ever, beach cart, chairs, surfboards, bogie boards and bikes! He has access to both clubs and Steve knows BHI better than anyone so can hook you up with outings/adventures. Highly recommend it so long as you dont pick our dates!!

We are two families that just finished our first visit to BHI. We had a great week! The house is in a perfect location with excellent access to the beach and beautiful sunsets from large decks that surround the first and second floors. House is fully stocked with bikes, chairs, umbrellas and towels. We cannot say enough good things about the kindness of the owner, he really goes above and beyond!!

We love Shoes Off! This is our third time enjoying this property - and WOW - the remodel and upgrades are phenomenal! The best view of the sunset anywhere on the island was right off the porch! We stayed with 2 families that had both young children and "adult children" and couldn't have asked for a better space! The common area had plenty of seats - and even on the "rainy day" the stocked bench with games, etc. were perfect. The kitchen was fully stocked and loaded with every pot, pan, baking sheet, spatula, etc. that you could think of. The "community pantry" with leftover spices / oils / etc. really came in handy! The grill was perfect for loading up the steaks, chicken, and burgers and the gas stove-top is perfect for indoor cooking. The bedrooms / closets / beds were great! Very comfortable spaces - excellent water pressure and the outdoor shower came in clutch multiple times. Shoes Off has some of the best carts on the island - and thanks to Max's handy work - the little blue cart garners a lot of views - sparking insane jealousy from those who are sputtering around. Wave as you go by... and make sure your hat is secure to your head! Under the porch was LOADED with beach chairs, beach toys, a beach cart, boogie boards, etc. which made for hours of endless fun just steps from the driveway! The only thing I wish we could have changed was our departure date... I always want a few more days on BHI! We feel at home at Shoes Off - and we will definitely be back.
