3 Bedroom House Overlooking The Ocean Somerset, Bermuda

Rental Overview
 3 Bedroom(s) Sleeps 6

Property Information
Located overlooking the ocean in a quiet residential area of Sandy's Parish, the house offers peace and tranquility to the family that wants space and all the amenities of home. The house has air-conditioned bedrooms and faces the south western shore and enjoys steady winds off the ocean, supplemented with ceiling fans.

The location is a lovely area: a quiet residential neighborhood near the beautiful Daniel's Head Park. The house is approximately 2000 square feet of living space.

There is a tiny beach at the house with exposed sand at low tide and an abundance of fish darting through the supports of the dock for your children to watch. The depth of water at the end of the deck ranges form 0 to 3 feet, but children still need to be watched carefully. You can see charming St.Margaret's Bay and wade over there at low tide from the dock of the house to play. The beach can be seen photo # 2 on the photos at the website, www.bermudarentals.com Walking over to St.Margaret's Bay only takes a few minutes strolling down the quiet residential street behind all the waterfront properties...) You can also swim at Somerset Long Bay and Callaghan Bay.

Picture # 3 is Mangrove Bay in the village of Somerset. The owner is convinced Somerset is far and away the best end of the island: a free sunset over the western ocean, regular ferry and now a super quick one as well- year round, wider roads and no noisy airport! The bus stop is not 500 yards from the house. The pretty little town of Somerset Village is nearby for groceries, wine or a delicious lunch or dinner at one of the roadside cafes.

You can also catch the ferry to Hamilton from Cavello Bay Wharf or Watford Bridge Wharf. There are several very elegant hotels in the area that will provide you with a happy evening of grand entertainment, or you can retire to the candle lit galleries of smaller establishments and dine under the stars to the sound of the surf rolling in.

On your mopeds,( or by the #7 or #8 bus) it is not a ten minute ride into the extraordinary Royal Naval Dockyard, built as a military installation in 1809. Constructed with slave and convict labour, the Dockyard became the strategic "Gibraltar of the West" for the Duke of Wellington. The buildings are magnificent stone structures and now house a variety of museum and maritime exhibits as well as a thriving arts community, specialty shops and cafes, a beautiful shopping arcade, a movie theatre and pubs. The exceptional handiwork of the poor souls that built the extraordinary installation is sadly commemorated in the old graveyards filled by the ravages of periodic yellow fever epidemics and the hard life of the workers forced there to build.

Of special interest is the Commissioner's House, the last remaining prefabricated cast iron residential structure in the world. With utterly breathtaking views from one end of Bermuda to the other, the lavishly appointed house is undergoing meticulous restoration. With the Clock Tower and the Keepyard to see as well, you will not want to pass up a day of leisurely exploration at this most fascinating attraction. There are even dolphins to play with in the waters of the Keepyard area. You can head off to Hamilton, mopeds in the hold, via the ferry that regularly plies the Great Sound for a short cut to the attractions of the capital city, and a break from driving the attractive but narrow roads of the island.

Don't hesitate to stop at any of the little cafes you see by the road side: scones and coffee or tea are universally delicious on the island, and everyone is happy to see you come in for a snack. Service may not be instantaneous, but its friendly and helpful. Bus service from the house runs along Somerset Road.
