The Anchorage House is situated in the beautiful and historic North Carolina’s Crystal Coast town of Beaufort. Since 1525, seafarers have been drawn to the area beaches, historical sites, and wild horses of Carrot Island. For nearly 150 years, our lovely cottage has contributed to the charms of Beaufort. We invite you to make the Anchorage House your home in Beaufort as you sample the areas many attractions. The 1866 Gothic Revival cottage has many historic treasures such as heart pine floors, mahogany doors, archways and mantels.

The Abingdon

The Elizabethan
Has a queen size pencil post mahogany bed with a pillow top mattress. It also has a unique plaster archway with functioning drawers and two doors leading to the half bath and the shower. The Moulin Rouge
Has a queen size pencil post mahogany bed with a pillow top mattress and a walk in closet. The decor has a french painted ceiling and pin strip walls that enhance the theme of its name. Other amenities include Wireless internet access, private bathroom, and cable television.

Fly-Fishing Package

Bring your boat down and learn how to fly-fish from Captain Shawn Mooring, who has been tying flies for over ten years and fly-fishing for over twenty-five. Get a lesson on land or your own boat for only $35 an hour. Bring all your fishing buddies and reserve two rooms or more and receive a free hour of fly-fishing tying lessons or casting practice.

Fly Fishing and Spin Fishing for Redfish, Bonita (April & May), Flounder (May-November), False Albacore (October thru ecember), Speckled Trout (Spring and Fall), Amberjack (May-November) and Ocean Striped Bass (Mid December to Feb). Also, available in the area are Spanish Mackerel, Blue fish, Gray and King Mackerel, Dolphin, Spots, Whiting, Croakers, and Black Bass.

Picnic Lunches
Picnic Lunches can be made for $7 a person. Each person receives a sandwich, fruit, and other goodies. Notice the night before is needed for lunches.

Awake to the wonderful smells of homemade biscuits, pecan or fruit waffles, or our special macadamia nut French toast. Menu varies daily.


Fresh-grounded coffee served at the perfect temperature to enhance the coffees flavor. Also available are juices and various teas.

Breakfast served from 8:00 to 9:30

Let us bring breakfast to you. Sleep in and relax, while we pamper you with a hearty breakfast complete with newspaper delivered right to your room ($30).

    Gift Shop/Livingroom:  Our livingroom has comfortable chairs and a relaxing atmosphere, perfect for reading, playing a game of chess and chatting with the other guests.  The livingroom also has a small gift shop and several bakery goods to choose from.  Some items in our gift shop include: Hand-made pottery and soaps, Home-made pies and other pastries, and several beverages to keep you cool in the summer.

    The Porch is spacious and has comfy rocking chairs and places to relax with home made pie and coffee from the gift shop.  The view includes an old camellia bush and a wonderful young rose garden.

    The Foyer has cozy gothic antique chairs and a matching loveseat. We have a refrigerator under the stairs for leftover's and drinks. It is a great room for reading, telling fish stories, or playing a game of chess.

    The Dining Room archway doors give an inviting entrance to a hundred year old oak pub table and comfy oak chairs for hearty sit down meals. Enjoy your full breakfast with us and our other guests!

    Historic Beaufort—Walk outside and take a stroll through the neighborhood. Antiques, Art galleries, shopping, restaurants, boardwalk, kayaking, boat rides, ghost walks, burial grounds are just some activities to undertake while you visit us.

    Radio Island—US 70 Causeway (Southeast Radio Island)- Wading; swimming; picnic tables; grills; restrooms and parking area (dangerous current in deeper water; stay close to shore when swimming); no lifeguard on duty.

    Atlantic Beach Water Access—US 70 Causeways to US 58. Beaches all along the causeway; lifeguard on duty from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.

    Fort Macon State Park.  Discover the fort’s history as though time it has protected Beaufort Harbor and the beautiful beach that has wonderful sunsets, surf fishing, swimming dolphins, and public restrooms.  

    Croatan National Forest. Hike and picnic through our woods and see the wildlife of our beaches and forest blend together in harmony.

    Maritime Museum in Beaufort has shells, history on Blackbeard and Queens Ann Revenge and equipment that have been used on boats since the beginning.

    Beaches:  North Carolina is known for its beautiful beaches.  We are located just a half-mile to Radio Island Beach and 5 miles to Atlantic Beach.  

    Cape Lookout Light House.  Take a ferry or Charter to Cape Lookout Lighthouse and watch the dolphins swim with the boat and the horses of Shackelford and Carrot Island.

    State Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores.  The newly remodeled Aquarium is three times larger and features new exhibits of jellyfish, river otters and a 306,000-gallon ocean tank. Visitors will get a glimpse of what Blackbeard’s flagship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge, and the sunken German sub U-352 look like on the ocean floor. The "Living Shipwreck," which will display the wreckage of the sub, will feature a viewing window more than 60 feet long! The expanded Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores will be three times larger than before, and feature exhibits and animals from across North Carolina. Mountain waterfalls, Piedmont Rivers, coastal swamps, and offshore shipwrecks will be some of the new habitats.
