Nestled between a sloping meadow and sparkling river, with fifty-six acres of forested foothills and a spring-fed swimming pond, the Henry Farm Inn is a haven of tranquility in a natural setting. The Henry Farm Inn has so much to offer travelers seeking a genuine Vermont bed and breakfast experience.
The Inn offers guests nine spacious, sunny bedrooms, all with private baths; a comfortable country dining room; a guest parlor with a working fireplace; and ample space for relaxing and mingling with fellow guests.
Children of all ages are very welcome at the Henry Farm Inn and the Inn is a great place for families and friends to re-unite for any occasion. Whether you're planning a family reunion, a quilting get-away or a small wedding, we would love to host your special event.
The Henry Farm Inn, a center hall Federal built in the late 1700's, is located in Chester, Vermont on the Green Mountain Turnpike and holds a significant place in Chester's history. Our well-maintained two hundred year old farmhouse was the first tavern in Chester, when it served as a stagecoach stop on the Green Mountain Turnpike. In colonial times this turnpike ran from Boston to Montreal, but now is a quiet, picturesque dirt road for us to treasure, perfect for biking, walking or a peaceful drive off the beaten path. The Henry Farm Inn offers a private country setting, but is only minutes away from the charming and historic Victorian village of Chester.
The Henry Farm Inn has retained the charm of its earlier days and we welcome guests who appreciate the Inn for its authenticity and simple early American décor. When you arrive we'll give you the "grand tour" to see for yourself how our rooms are enhanced by the original wide pumpkin-pine floors (the largest one measures almost two feet wide!), our eight Rumford fireplaces, original hand-hewn beams, a beehive oven in the dining room fireplace, a hearth oven in our wonderful country kitchen, authentic Moses Eaton stenciling, and, Chester's first hot water bathtub.
Our beautiful, natural surroundings speak for themselves - come enjoy the view from our wonderful back porch swing and treasure the Vermont countryside with us! We cordially invite you to relax in our refreshingly friendly and casual atmosphere. Our goal is to create an Inn that is warm and comforting, just like home.

Chester is located in the southeast corner of Vermont on the easterly side of the Green Mountains. Many unique Vermont attractions and activities are right outside our door or a few minutes drive away. We are conveniently located only 10 miles off Interstate 91, so we are easily reached from New York City, Boston and Hartford. Your drive may be short, but the beauty of Southern Vermont makes it seem like you have traveled to a far-away place.
The charming Victorian village of Chester is the perfect place to start your Vermont explorations. Our pretty village is full of interesting shops and galleries featuring antiques, local artwork, handmade Vermont quilts and crafts as well as unique marble and soapstone gifts. If you like history, follow a self-guided walking tour along Main Street and the Village Green, with historical text provided by Hugh Henry, (our Inn's namesake). Plan to visit picturesque Stone Village in Chester Depot. Enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the fine restaurants on the Village Green. It will soon be easy to see why Chester was chosen as one of "The Most Beautiful Villages of New England."
No matter what type of activity you enjoy, Southern Vermont provides a great variety for recreation and entertainment in any season. Enjoy a scenic train ride on the Green Mountain Flyer (along the Williams River from Chester to Bellows Falls). Learn about the history of Vermont farm life at the Billings Farm and Museum in Woodstock or enjoy horseback riding at several nearby stables. Apple picking at a local orchard is a favorite fall activity for the entire family. Many of our guests enjoy canoeing and kayaking in the nearby Connecticut, West and Battenkill Rivers. And, since we are so close, who can resist a visit to the famous Vermont Country Store. We are situated halfway between their Weston and Rockingham store locations.
In the evening, attend a memorable theatrical performance at the Weston Playhouse or experience the best in theatre, music and dance with widely acclaimed productions of the Green Mountain Festival Series. A delightful offering of folk music and artwork can be found year-round in nearby Bellows Falls by the Rockingham Arts and Museum Project, an organization that is steadily transforming this historical town into a showplace for artists and musicians.
Our winter guests spend many a happy day downhill skiing and snowboarding at nearby Okemo, Magic and Ascutney Mountains. (Watch our Specials Page for Ski and Stay Packages). Grafton Ponds Nordic Center is close by for those who want to cross country ski or snow shoe on miles of uninterrupted wooded trails. We will happily arrange for horse-drawn sleigh rides at several nearby stables.
Many warm weather activities are available to the outdoor enthusiast. Swimming, hiking, biking and bird watching can be enjoyed right on our property. Try trout fishing at our own "Rainbow Hole" on the Williams River (a favorite spot for local and visiting fisherman). Bike or walk along the quiet back roads starting with our beautiful scenic spot on the Green Mountain Turnpike and visit the two covered bridges just a few miles down the road. Every turn will provide a panoramic view of all the beauty Vermont has to offer.
The area has several extraordinary golf courses from which to choose. All combine challenging golf and breathtaking views. We will gladly arrange tee-times prior to your visit.
You may opt for one or all of these activities or simply choose to sit back and relax. Whatever you do, the Henry Farm Inn is the perfect spot for your Vermont vacation.
