Vacation Rental Description
This gorgeous and luxurious villa has 4 bedrooms, 6 1/2 baths, very large living room, den/play-room with kitchen, dining room, as well as a separate studio. Guests have happily commented that it was always possible to find a quiet spot, even when the house was full of people.
The house is well suited to multi-generational and extended family holidays, as the bedrooms are not all located next to one another. In the main house there are 3 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms: the 1st master bedroom is separate, on the upper level. The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms (turquoise and blue) are under the master, and accessed from the sitting room. The last two bedrooms are at the other end of the house, beyond the kitchen.
In total, there are 6 and one half baths: all bathrooms have tubs and showers.
The villa has access to wireless Internet as well as central air conditioning.
1) Master bedroom, upstairs: US Super King bed, with marble bathroom, walk-in shower, and bidet.
2) Blue bedroom: two US Twin beds, which can be put together as King/Super King bed. With ensuite shower room and bidet.
3) Turquoise bedroom: two Twin beds, with bathroom and bidet.
4) Bedroom off of the kitchen: UK Super King which is 6 foot wide, with adjacent bathroom.
5) Studio bedroom: 5ft Queen size bed, with ensuite bathroom.
– Below the Twin room is an optional extra single bed, with a half bathroom adjacent.
– A couple of inflatable mattresses may also be available for additional sleeping arrangements.
Downstairs in the studio apartment with kitchen/living space is a Queen pullout. There is a pool bathroom available to this room (with shower, toilet and basin) accessed by stepping outdoors and into the adjacent pool bathroom. The studio is a quiet room with nice views towards Castle Harbour.
From the property you have fantastic views of Castle Harbour, and a gorgeous swimming pool and deck area: ideal for group gatherings. In the villa, the downstairs kitchen/sitting area opens onto a small grassy area by the pool. There is also a pool shower room at that level (with access from the gardens).
The kitchen is a smart, modern installation with blue Corian countertops. It is fully functional and very well equipped for cooking delicious meals. The oven, cook-top, and the dishwasher have been recently upgraded. For cooking outdoors while enjoying the spectacular views, there is a Weber barbecue.
The villa has a 3-tier water filtration system which ensures good quality water. As water is collected from the rain in Bermuda, if everyone tries to have a shower at once the system will not be able to filter the water quickly enough.
The main dining room table seats 10 indoors, and there is an identical table set-up outdoors. There is also a smaller table in the kitchen which seats 4 to 6 persons.
The large pool is at a lower level, where there is a gate for entrance. However there is also an unfenced passage to the pool via the family room, so guests are reminded to leave the family room door locked at all times, especially when there are smaller children in the house. Pools in Bermuda are not required to be completely fenced as they are in North America: we want all of our guests to be safe, so little ones must be supervised at all times. The pool also has a safety ridge all the way around so that one is not out of depth even in the deep end.
Car available for rent only to those guests who have a valid Bermuda Drivers license.
The location is near Glebe Hill in Tuckers Town. There is a bus stop for the Number 1 bus route at the bottom of the hill (with service to Hamilton and St Georges). The house overlooks the Mid Ocean and Tuckers Point Golf Courses. Previous guests have remarked on the lovely views and nice location with proximity to the beaches and the airport. There is a small runaround car: a Suzuki R Wagon which is automatic. Its use is subject to indemnities from the potential drivers in case of accident/ damage etc. and can only be rented to persons holding a valid current Bermuda license. The nearest public beach to the house is Baby Beach, which is great if one is looking for still water and safe playing for children. John Smiths Bay is also nearby in Smiths Parish, which is about a 10 minute drive from the property.
Tuckers Town is a much sought after location because of its wonderful golf courses, and large homes on spacious lots. This is a relatively recent development dating from the 1920’s when an Act of Parliament cleared the way to purchase property from the owners to consolidate enough land for a hotel and the famous golf course that launched Bermuda’s tourism industry. Prior to this time, Hamilton Parish was a quiet backwater with ship building, fishing, tobacco farms and an abundance of handsome old buildings that have been imaginatively re-incorporated into larger structures over the centuries. The Bermuda Architectural Heritage Series for Hamilton Parish and St George’s are books that will enhance your appreciation for the island and its remarkable heritage and a wonderful reference as you tour around.
Flatts Village is five minutes away by taxi- perhaps 15 minutes by bus (and is a delightful destination) with nice places to eat (Rustico’s is particularly enjoyed by locals and visitors alike), gift and other shops, and the Aquarium and Zoo with Geological Museum which are well worth a visit. The Village now features a pizzeria, take-out cafe, Italian restaurant, and the 1926 aquarium with attached museum and mini-zoo. Very close convenience store as well as groceries with spirits, treats and specialty foods like gluten-free.
Harrington Sound is ringed with gorgeous homes overlooking the placid waters of the sound. One can snorkel comfortably or play with the parasail company that operates in the Sound. There are fine dining establishments nearby such as the renowned Tom Moore’s Tavern and the Swizzle Inn for drinks and snacks. . A bit off the beaten path at Sayles Road is the home of the primary shipping tax collector, built in the style of the 1700’s with a dazzling collection of children’s toys, period furniture and medicinal garden.
Hiking is enjoyable at Ferry Reach and St. David’s Head. Also visit Spittal Pond Bird Sanctuary, the Railway Trail and the sumptuous parks of the south shore coastline, such as Cooper’s Island- the finest of which has to be Coopers Island- see details under the section “Beaches and Attractions” on our homepage. Be sure to visit the Irish Linen Shop on Front Streetfor many books on Bermuda and Attractions.
Wind your way along the South Shore all the way out to the fabled surf of Elbow Beach and then on heading west to Horseshoe Bay and Warwick Long Bay- it is a spectacular drive with astounding views over the ocean around every corner. The extraordinary thing about Bermuda is that the geography is so different from the rest of the Caribbean islands. Hilly, with sandstone cliffs, lush vegetation, turquoise and green waters, and pinkish sand beaches strewn with shells and coral, sheltered from the heavy ocean swells by a necklace of protective reefs. Not only do we have unique trees and shrubs and animals, we also have a history that predates that of the founding of the colonies in Virginia and an architectural style that has evolved to withstand heavy storms with an understated and refined charm that is lovely- white roofs and pastel walls, welcoming arms staircases and handsome front doors, shutters unlike any found elsewhere.
