Property Information
Inlet Harbor Club, LLC, formerly Alexandria Bay Boat Works, was founded in 1995 by Richard A. Merola. A lifelong seasonal resident and local business owner, his passion for the area and commitment to the marine lifestyle is evident in his past, present and future endeavors. Upon graduating from Syracuse University’s School of Management in 1986, he founded Aqua-mania, Inc. in Alexandria Bay, NY. The company has expanded into a full scale boat dealership with seven franchises offered. Although the company has grown every year since inception, the founder recognized the need for additional space in order to fully implement his business plan and vision. Hence Inlet Harbor Club was born via his purchase at auction in 1995.
Richard Merola was eager to embark on his unique marine development concept unlike anything in the Thousand Islands. Thanks to the cooperation and support of both the Town and Village planning and zoning boards his vision is becoming reality.
The heart of the project and concept is a Victorian Bathhouse Clubhouse offering its members old world charm with modern club-style amenities and services. There will be separate facilities for men and women including separate dressing rooms, showers and lavatories along with laundry, vending, a cocktail banquet/lounge space complete with a 2-sided fireplace, covered porch and barbeque patio will provide members a unique social experience in a private club-like setting. A children’s playground will be fenced for security and privacy.
In order to capitalize and stabilize the project and club, 30 lots are being developed and sold. These unique homes will be known as “Harbor Villas” and will offer boaters a year round destination for their boats and selves. The boathouse design offers a 40’ slip with living quarters above. The developer selected architect and professor Robert Charron, a native of Ogdensburg and lifelong boater in the Thousand Islands. Merola and Charron worked together to design and create a Victorian style boathouse villa home that offers year round living with low maintenance and rental income to its’ owners.
A large heated rack storage building will provide in/out and/or seasonal storage for its members. The building will have an exterior décor with more residential feel by including windows, shutters, raised panels along with earth tone colors to help blend into the landscape.
Inlet Harbor Club plans to sell its excess slips to club members rather than compete with local marinas for seasonal and transient boaters. “We are trying to create a larger seasonal residential population through our niche boater owned marina club concept,” says Mr. Merola. It is their hope that this increased population will help stabilize not only the Inlet Harbor Club project but the Village as a whole. “People who own real estate tend to be more permanent than people who don’t,” said Merola.

Inlet Harbor Club is located in the heart of the Thousand Islands in the village of Alexandria Bay, NY. Alexandria Bay is 90 miles due north of Syracuse, NY, the closest commercial airport. Inlet Harbor Club’s location within the village limits provides the vacationer a “no car” vacation experience.
