Available Starting Memorial Day 2007 for any length of time.
The 1821 House is composed of nine rooms. The rooms are quite large. They have 10 foot ceilings and lovely moldings. There are four Rumsford fireplaces (only two in working order). The design of this house is based on a New York City townhouse that one would find around 1820. Why they took this design to recreate in Upper Red Hook I don't know.
The house has all the original detail from when it was built in 1821. All the furniture we have collected is antique and in keeping with the feel of the house. It is true that there is still some cosmetic work to be done here, mainly some floors to be refinished and some walls in need of paint, but even "as is" the house is definitely sophisticated, charming, special, spacious, and very comfortable.
The rooms downstairs are: large center hall, 20X20 living room and same size dining room, large kitchen with large five burner stove, and half bath. On the second floor is a large hall, three bedrooms and a full bath, on the third floor is a large family room, two bedrooms, and full bath. This house is only available for the months of July and August. It is also available Easter week.
The house is in the hamlet of Upper Red Hook and is surrounded by equally beautiful historic homes. The yard is large and has flower and vegetable gardens. We are a 5 minute walk to a deli which is nice for leisurely picking up the morning paper or getting milk if you run out.
We are three to ten miles from the following towns: Red Hook, Tivoli, Rhinebeck, and Kingston. We are five miles from the wonderful Hudson River. There is a town recreation park with tennis courts, baseball diamond, basketball courts, track and pool two miles away, and we are five miles from Bard College with its wonderful gym.
This area is chock full of great restaurants, many cultural attractions, and plenty of outdoor places to visit for incredible hikes and views.
