The French Quarter is New Orleans oldest and most expensive neighbourhood. Marigny Triangle is a great option for homeowners looking for densely populated areas, historic appeal and walkability. The Marigny Triangle has some advantages over the French Quarter. It is conveniently located between the Vieux-Carre and the trendy Bywater and has easy accessibility to all amenities. Faubourg Marigny Residents are proud of the Faubourg. This is an ancient French word for "suburb", Marigny. This small area is located just downriver from the French Quarter. You will find all that makes New Orleans so wonderful. The jazz clubs on Frenchmen Street are world-famous. You can hear the best musicians jamming with the stars of tomorrow every night. In the Marigny, you'll find some of the most popular restaurants in the city. In these places, new chefs are constantly reinventing the city's food. In the neighborhood antique shops and galleries, you can find treasures to suit all budgets. From museum-quality art, to thrift store chic, there are treasures available for every budget. The diverse mix of Creole and late Georgian homes, as well as Greek Revivals, creates a fascinating cityscape. According to the City Planning Commission's definition, the Marigny is defined as: North Rampart Street; St. Claude Avenue from St. Claude Avenue back to St. Claude Avenue; Franklin Avenue to St. Claude Avenue; the Mississippi River to the south and Esplanade Avenue to the west. Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville was an eccentric Creole millionaire who laid out the Marigny during the first decade of the 19th century. It was built in the area that used to be his family's former plantation, just downstream of New Orleans' old city boundaries. The first Marigny was built closest to the river. The area west of St. Claude Avenue, formerly called "Goodchildren Street", was later referred to as "New Marigny". Elysian Fields Avenue, named after the Champs AlysA (c),es of Paris, was meant to be the main street in the Faubourg-Marigny. It was the first street that ran from the riverfront all the way to Lake Pontchartrain, which is 8 km (5 miles) away. The Pontchartrain Railroad was built between 1830 and 1831. It ran through the middle of Elysian Fields. Milneburg developed in the area opposite the rail line. Washington Square is the town square of Marigny. It faces Elysian Fields. The neighborhood suffered during the middle of 20th century but recovered in the second half. Many residents of the French Quarter moved to the Marigny because of the 1984 World's Fair. Frenchmen Street was quickly the most popular live music venue and restaurant in the city. It was a popular destination both for locals and visitors. Please send us a message with any questions you may have about the neighborhood. SpaceThis space was carefully maintained to preserve the historic features and ensure your comfort.
