The Marigny Cottage offers a charming and cozy home just outside of the busy French Quarter. It offers the best in New Orleans. The cottage is located in the Marigny Triangle. It is close to all the city's famous events. You can also walk down to Frenchman Street, where you can enjoy local art, live music, and delicious food. You can take the streetcar downtown or uptown or you can walk around. Our digital guidebook will enhance your stay. It includes insider tips, recommendations for restaurants and nightlife, as well as suggestions on attractions and other places to go. Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville was an eccentric Creole millionaire who laid out the Marigny during the first decade of the 19th century. It was built in the area that used to be his family's former plantation, just downstream of New Orleans' old city boundaries. The first Marigny was built closest to the river. The area west of St. Claude Avenue, formerly called "Goodchildren Street", was later referred to as "New Marigny". Elysian Fields Avenue, named after the Champs AlysA (c),es of Paris, was meant to be the main street in the Faubourg-Marigny. It was the first street that ran from the riverfront all the way to Lake Pontchartrain, which is 8 km (5 miles) away. The Pontchartrain Railroad was built between 1830 and 1831. It ran through the middle of Elysian Fields. Milneburg developed in the area opposite the rail line. Washington Square is the town square of Marigny. It faces Elysian Fields.
