Property Information
The Narraguagus Cottage is located in one of the most beautiful spots on the Downeast coast, the seaside village of Milbridge. To reach Milbridge, you must drive east from Ellsworth on the Shoodic Scenic Byway.
In Milbridge, large sea-captain homes line parts of Main Street and church steeples protrude up into the skyline. Driving across the bridges spanning the Narraguagus River, spectacular views loom in all directions. The Milbridge Marina, lobster and sailboats, and several islands are visible on one side of the bridge, while the Narraguagus River winds down the other side.
At the cottage, you are just a few minutes walk from this beautiful old Maine village, who’s motto is “Milbridge – A View & A Vision”. From your perch over the entrance of Narraguagus Bay, you have spectacular views of eagles, seabirds and harbor seals. Occasionally, you might see anglers fishing from the river banks and boats steaming by.
The cottage has just recently been renovated and as you can tell from the main picture of this property, the view from the living room and dining area is spectacular! (no that isn’t a painting in the background). In fact the star of this property is the built in seating/dining area that protrudes from the house right into the view. One could spend their entire vacation in this seating area.
Comfortably furnished, the cottage has a gas fireplace downstairs in addition to a functional working kitchen. There is a cable television to keep up-to-date on the news of the day as well.
Upstairs are three bedrooms featuring two queen beds and one twin bedroom. A full size bathroom with shower stall completes the second level. Every bedroom has spectacular views of the water.
There is a laundry area and walk-out patio off the basement.
While located on the shore of the Narraguagus, the cottage does not necessarily have a usable waterfront. The shore is some what muddy and boundaried between the house by tall sea grass. However, the adventurous can walk down to the edge of the water and launch a kayak or throw in a fishing line if they desire.
A short two to three minute walk will lead you from the cottage to the town landing where you can launch a boat or watch the local lobster boats bring in their catch.
One of the many websites that describes the Downeast Maine area said it best when they said, “If you want to see the real Maine, flee tourist attractions and national chains and drive the Schoodic Scenic Byway. Discover a region and lifestyle that residents want to preserve and visitors want to experience. Spend your day in a landscape of lighthouses, lobstering, clamming, blueberry fields, and timberland. Stop and peruse the small shops and yard sales where local artisans and craftspeople sell their wares. Afterwards, relax and have a good night's sleep at a historic bed-and-breakfast.”

This cottage is near it all. There are several restaurants and a sizeable grocery store within walking distance. You will surely enjoy a good meal at the 44 North Restaurant & Pub. Breakfast at the Red Barn Restaurant will help you start out your day. If it is seafood you desire, then Tibbetts Seafood Market offers everything from the sea to bring back to the cottage and cook on your own. Also in town are the Chicamoose Café’ and the Milbridge Pharmacy. A short drive down the street at the entrance to town is Josh’s Place, a great stop for an ice cream or hot dog.
For entertainment, there is a two theater movie cinema in town that offers recently released movies.
Within a short drive many adventures can begin. Start with
Wyman’s Bluebberrys. Wyman’s is one of the largest blueberry distributors in the world. They annually harvest billions of blueberries on their 7,000 acres of land. If you have ever had blueberry Eggo Waffles, or eaten a packaged blueberry muffin, then you have had a Wyman’s blueberry. Take a trip over to their facility for a tour and some fresh berries in August.
Still on the subject of fruit, go over to the famous
Bartlett Maine Estate Winery — home to the best, most sophisticated fruit wines in the country for more than twenty years. Their blueberry wine is a favorite.
If lighthouses are your thing,
Petit Manan Lighthouse is located on the outskirts of Milbridge.
Take a trip to Bar Harbor. Although 65 miles by car from Milbridge, the world-famous resort town of Bar Harbor is just a short trip across Frenchman’s Bay on the
Bar Harbor Ferry. With several trips a day, you can scoot over to Bar harbor in the morning and take a walking tour of Bar Harbor, or rent a scooter to explore Acadia National Park without all the hassle of driving through the traffic to get onto the busy island.
From the cottage, you are less than 15 minutes to the entrance of the Schoodic Penninsula portion of
Acadia National Park. This often overlooked portion of the park is spectacular and will afford you lots of fun and exploring opportunities.
If you just feel like staying around the cottage and maybe having a picnic, head over to McClellan Park where you can enjoy spectacular views from this 10 acres park located on the ocean. There are several hiking trails here to explore.
On a rainy day, be sure to go explore the
Wild Salmon Resource Center and Hatchery in nearby Columbia Falls.
Finally, don’t forget to head east – all the way east – to the Canadian Border with New Brunswick, less than an hour away. Several towns including Machias, Jonesport, and Eastport, are worth your time to explore. Take a daysail and see whales in Eastport from the sailing vessel
Sylvina W. Beal.

Not all of our ammenities are included with this property. However, if you are interested in one of our boats to rent - we can provide it for you if you have a trailer hitched vehicle to tow it the 1/4 mile to the town landing launching ramp with.
