Captiva and Sanibel - beautiful tropical islands in sunny Florida.

Rental Overview
 1-7 Bedroom(s) 1-8 Bathroom(s)   Sleeps Varies

Property Information
Captiva Island is truly subtropical, and enjoys fine weather all year. The peaceful barrier island includes a wildlife sanctuary and miles of white sand beaches. Captiva Island is unlike any other tropical island. It has no hotels, and that's definitely part of the charm.

Captiva Island rests in quiet privacy at the end of the road, north of Sanibel Island in the Gulf of Mexico. It has become the preferred vacation destination (as well as permanent residence) for discerning Floridians and other well-informed travelers. For Captiva Island offers what few other Florida beaches can: luxurious accommodations in the midst of unspoiled, natural beauty. This is also a favorite spot for Family Reunions, and it's the #1 rated "Romantic Beaches in the U.S. and Nearby" by Amy Ziff, Travelocity's Editor-at-Large.

Property Activities
The beautiful island known as Captiva sits in the Gulf of Mexico, in warm, sunny southwest Florida. This area is truly subtropical, kept warm by the clean waters of the Gulf of Mexico. But no ferry is needed: you can drive there from the Florida mainland. And there are plenty of convenient flights into the international airport at Fort Myers: Regional Southwest (RSW). Or, you can arrive by boat from the Intracoastal Waterway (please call to make arrangements).

Captiva is a slender barrier island stretching six miles from the southern connection to Sanibel to the northern tip of South Seas Plantation. The sandy lanes run east and west one block of the paved main road, under canopies of royal palm, giant schefflera and Australian pine.

To find Captiva on a Florida map:

Look for Fort Myers on the southwest coast.
Then follow the peninsula west to Sanibel Island.
Captiva connects to the north end of Sanibel.
Flying
These international airports can be used to travel to Captiva. The Southwest Florida International Airport is the nearest, and is a nice modern facility. All major rental car agencies are available to travelers at these airports.

Southwest Florida International Airport (239) 768-1000 (ten miles southeast of Fort Myers)
Tampa International Airport (813) 870-8700 (five miles west of downtown Tampa)
Orlando International Airport (407) 825-2001 (seven miles south of Orlando, near DisneyWorld)
Miami International Airport (305) 876-7077 (five miles northwest of Miami)
Driving
If you are driving from elsewhere in Florida, here are the approximate driving times to Fort Myers. Allow approximately 90 minutes to drive from Fort Myers to Captiva, depending on whether you stop to look at the beautiful sights along the way. You'll pass through the commercial district of Sanibel Island, which does become heavily congested with auto traffic in season. Be patient and be glad you're staying on peaceful Captiva Island.

Miami: 3.0 hours driving time
Tampa: 3.0 hours driving time
Orlando: 4.0 hours driving time
Driving directions from Fort Myers (Interstate 75): Exit 131 from I-75 is marked SW Florida International Airport/Cape Coral. Take Daniels Parkway west for 2.73 miles. Turn left onto Six Mile Cypress Parkway (CR80) for 2.85 miles. Continue straight onto Gladiolus Drive for 1.49 miles. Turn slight left onto Summerlin Road for 6.02 miles. Summerlin Road becomes McGregor Blvd., continue 1.93 miles. Turn slight left onto Causeway Blvd., then continue 3.51 miles. Turn right onto Periwinkle Way for 2.50 miles. Turn right onto Palm Ridge Road, which becomes Sanibel-Captiva Road, for 6.78 miles. (Note that speed limits are moderate and enforced -- no need to hurry on the islands anyway.) Cross bridge onto Captiva Island, and stay on Captiva Drive for 3.86 miles. At the stop sign, turn left onto Andy Rosse Lane. American Realty of Captiva is on the right side about halfway to the beach.
