Cedar Key is a naturalists paradise where hundreds of species of birds spend the winter months. From sunrise to sunset a stroll along the shorelines and marshes reveals the ongoing cycles of the Nature Coast. Ospreys build their nests and feed their young. Great Blue Herons, Egrets, Ibis and a myriad of other waders quietly work the waters edge in serach of food. Frigate birds soar high above in their graceful circles over the Gulf and dolphins play just off the shore. Watch carefully and you may see the elusive roseate spoonbills, or flocks of White Pelicans. At dusk, mischievous racoons come out to work the oyster bars and marshes, home to many species of shellfish and crustaceans. Throughout the day the pelicans dive and fish, following the fishing boats and generally entertaining all who watch. While the north is in the deep freeze take a walk or ride a bike through Cedar Key and discover an undiscovered treasure of Island charm. The Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge, a group of barrier islands off the coast of Cedar Key are accessible by boat. Take time to discover the mysteries of the Gulf and its barrier islands. Nature Trail
Natures Landing sits astride the Historic Cedar Key Railroad Path.
We are located on Depot Street and our office building is the former Train Depot.
Leaving the condominiums the nature trail follows the old railroad bed taking you out into the estuary. You'll see the actual cypress pilings more than a hundred years old that carried the tressle toward the mainland.
A wooden boardwalk takes you over an inland bay, through the mangroves and finally to the main channel & access to the open gulf.
Witness the herons, egrets, ibis, ospreys, gulls, terns and even the elusive roseate spoonbill and the White pelican.
Fish from the dock for trout, reds and, as always, cat fish.
Watch the clam farmers return with the days harvest.
